About the artist
Gerhard Herbst began making jewellery at age 15 when the course was offered at his high school. Immediately enamored with the medium and process, he went on to San Diego State University where he studied sculpture and jewellery design. In 1995 he and his wife moved Noosa. He established a new studio. In his current work he explores parallels between the use of the continuous single line and the process and lineage of choice in one's life. Mirroring one's own life experience, the single line form creates outcomes were the choices are all chronological and connected. Similarly one travels through life confined to the same reality. Inescapably the line-path connects through time.

About the artwork
Sol is about choice and the people we choose to be. Forged from a single line of wire, my pieces explore parallels between the continuous single line and the lineage of choices in our lives. Mirroring our own life experience the single line form creates outcomes where the choices are all chronological and connected. Flowing from one choice to the next, I create my forms as a metaphor for the series of interconnected choices and outcomes that shape our experience.
